I started by stamping the Butterflies in Distress ink on ivory cardstock.
I cut a 4" strip off of the webster pages paper to make the bottom layer. Then I cut a 4" strip again off the same paper and used the back side. I layered it all on ivory cardstock.
Before I placed the layers, I faintly drew a line 4" down from the top and using the Swirly from the butterfly stamp set, I stamped across that line. I then used my stampin' up stamps to create the lacey looking flowers.
I had to dig deep and eventually found the 6 petal flower stamp that I stamped in more distress inks and cut them out.
As I looked at the top, it seemed to be missing something. I wanted some stitching, but since my sewing skills are limited at best, I did some faux stitching with my brown sharpie marker. To get the perfect curve that I wanted, I used a 8" paper plate to faintly trace the line that I wanted the stitching to follow.
I really loved the collage of flowers I created on the bottom, but noticed that either side looked a little unbalanced. I stamped some more of the little flowers and placed them on either side. When I did that, I realized that those 2 small flowers seemed to be just floating with no real "attachment" to the original flower collage. I lightly drew some swirlies and leaves until I ended up with a design that I liked. I then went over it that tracing, but this time with a gold metallic gel pen.
The colorings were perfect with the papers and almost look as if they were already there! I love that!
Once I started looking at it, I realized that I didn't really leave a good place to add my journaling. That created a new challenge. How do I add some journaling about the photos without taking away from the overall design?
I cut a tag out of the left over ivory cardstock and adhered another stamped butterfly on one end. If you look closely, you can see the tag tucked ever so gently behind the photo on the right!
What I love: I love the colors. The blue just pops right off of the page. The red was also a perfect accent.
